Magical Mondays: Harry Potter themed hats!

As you may know, I have been DYING to do a Harry Potter series for like...2 years now!  I finally got the courage to do it.  I have far too many ideas and it is a little scary.  I didn't know how I was going to get it all done but then...

Lumos...

I finally had a *bright* idea *light* up my mind to have Magical Mondays!  I have dreamed up a good 3 dozen Harry Potter themed hats (inspired from the books and movies).  Way too many to have a mere week dedicated to them so every Monday I shall feature at least one (but probably several) Harry Potter themed hat(s).

I'll post them simultaneously on my Facebook page and in my Etsy shop www.chikibird.etsy.com under the category "Magical Hats".  Many of the hats I will not be remaking...I'll let you know which those are when I post them.

There is a drawing every week for $20.00 to use in my Etsy shop!
Here are the details:

1.  Answer the question of the day.  You don't have to be a Harry Potter fan to play along.  Simply comment on the hat(s) posted to be entered in the drawing.
2.  Check back on my Facebook page on Wednesday ("Winner Wednesday") to see if you won!

Pretty easy!
-You can win more than once.
-I'll be having Magical Mondays until I am done with all the hats (about 10 weeks worth!).
-I will try to go in a logical sequence but I might throw a random hat in the middle of the series that doesn't seem to belong...oh well, we all belong somewhere!
-If you see something you like, *pounce* these could go quickly (I think)!
-You do not have to share (but always love it when you do).  Just be a part of the Magical Monday by commenting!

The $20.00 credit isn't good on custom orders or reserved hats.  It will be expire 2 weeks after issued.

I cannot reserve any Magical hats.

Some of the hats will clearly be Harry Potter related but others will have charming cross over abilities for many occasions.

I am so excited!!!!

Alice in Wonderland Theme Week!

It's been too long!  By decree of the Queen, Chiki Bird Hat Studio declares "Alice in Wonderland Theme Week"!  A week long celebration through mini top hats (and other designs too) that will leave you wondering..."Whooo am I?" and "When IS a writing desk like a crow?".  We may never know but we'll have fun pondering these questions and more this week!

Wonderland was my very first theme week on my Facebook page way back when.  Since then I have sold hundreds and hundreds of Wonderland Themed hats (or Alice hats as I frequently call them).  I have come up with more creative interpretations since then.  Just recently, I have discovered my fondness for dioramas!  Naturally, I combined the love for hat making with my diorama fetish and...viola!  More Alice hats!

What is the fascination with Alice anyway?  Is it her curious nature?  Is it her "well, I'm not sure, I guess I'll find out" attitude?  Is it her dress?  Her no hesitation when encountering the oddest creatures ever created?  I pick all of the above!  What a wacky story.

This November is the 150th Anniversary of Alice in Wonderland, written by Lewis Carroll.  I couldn't wait to celebrate.  Let's do it now!

I take my inspiration for my new Alice hats mainly from Mr. Carroll's book illustrated by John Tenniel.  Classic Alice...nothing like it.  These illustrations have inspired generations of day dreamers, Wonderland seekers and artists alike.  Genius!

First the rules...

RULES FOR THEME WEEK;

-The contest will start with my first posting on Monday, August 31st through my last posting on September 5th at 9:00pm CST.
-You must "like" my facebook page in order to win.
-Each day I will post several hats throughout the day.  Every day there will be a new "Question of the Day".  Answer the question within the post and your name will get put into a hat (a literal hat...although last time I had to upgrade to a giant mixing bowl) for a drawing.
-If you don't have an answer for the question of the day or already answered it on a previous post that same day, you can comment on the post or share the post (you are not required to share the post, but I love  it when you do!).
-You can answer/comment as often as you like on each post but your name will only be entered once for each post (so, you have a potential for getting your name in the hat several times a day depending on how many hats I post that day).
-You have until 9:00pm CST each day to post your answer or comments.  At that time I will be    putting your names in the hat...literally...I'll sit down and write your name on a piece of paper    and stick it in the hat!
-The drawing will be held on Saturday, September 6th when I get up.  The winners will be posted on Facebook.  Winners are responsible for contacting me via Facebook message to get the details.
-The prize is:
-$30.00 to use in my Etsy shop
               This amount is not refundable; can only be used in my Etsy shop;
               CAN be transferred to a friend or loved one ; must be used by September 30, 2015;
not good on custom orders or reserved hats.
-If you have won in the past...you can win again!  The slate is wiped clean!
Good luck!

A note about discounts: It is true...after each theme week I reward all my facebook fans with a coupon to use in my Etsy shop.  This time will be no different.  However, please note that the discount is not good on previous orders, reserved hats or custom hats.  Also, many of the hats unveiled this week are one of a kind and when they are gone, that's it!  I cannot remake them.   The sale will be on September 6th and end September 7th.

Some of the hats are extremely time consuming and while I can recreate some of them, I will not be taking custom orders on them.  What I'm trying to say is...if you like it, buy it or you may potentially miss out.

Hold on to your (ehem) hats!  Let the fun begin!

I've sold over 50 of this particular hat.  It is my classic Alice hat.  But wait...there's more!  Go to my Facebook page!

Frodo..the end

At the end of the journey and at the end of the tale, Frodo boards the ship to Grey Havens.
As Frodo explains to Sam...they set out to save the Shire and they did...but not for him.

In the "back" of Frodo's mind the Shire will always be.  So naturally, I put the Shire in the back of the hat and his waist coat in the front.  A tuft of green silk under the Shire represents his green cloak.

And then Sam cries, and then I cry.  Gandalf says, "I will not say, do not weep, for all tears are not an evil."

Sigh...the end.

This concludes our The Lord of the Rings hats.  Winner announced tomorrow!

Question of the day (it is different from this  morning's question):

New Question of the day for the last 2 hats!:
What are the scenes from the movie or moments from the book that made you cry?

Me?  When Aragorn bows to the Hobbits...sniff...I'm tearing up now!  And, pretty much whenever Sam cried.  I love him (no Sam hat but he is my favorite character).

This hat is not in my shop.

Aragorn

"I give hope to men. I keep none for myself."

Golly!  He's the guy!

I chose to make Aragorn's hat in his "cleanest" form.  He was always so filthy, but somehow not in a bad way.

Eowyn

Eowyn...our heroin.

Victor and slayer of  the nasty Witch King of Angmar, Lord of the Nazgul...and his icky Nazgul.
She is the poster girl for bravery.  Afraid and scared but does it anyway...to save her uncle and the people that she loves.

Question of the day (Friday...last day!):
What is one (or more) of your favorite lines form the movies.  A line that you actually repeat in your everyday speech.  Not necessarily a line...maybe a word like "elvensies" or "taters".

This is in my top favorite hats of all time.  I love the drapping and the whole look.  I think it looks just like her!  I used a low profile medium base (because of her shorter petite stature) and wrapped it in regal emerald green (the bottom is a vintage crushed velvet...probably from Middle Earth, I'm sure) drapped it in "chainmail"  attaching it with shield like metal medallions.  A sword and royal looking "scepter" pierce the front of the hat.  For the sash...a leather belt.

Gandalf the White and Shadow Fax

When Gandalf whistles and Shadow Fax comes running across the field, my heart raced...how beautiful!  He had a small roll to play but so memorable.

"Run Shadow Fax. Show us the meaning of haste."  Gosh, I think that's one of the best lines in the whole series!

I use it often.

I used off white and all white items for Gandalf's hat.  Off white linen and trim with a white celtic braided "belt"  Fluffy feathers I have flow with the slightest of breeze from behind Shadow Fax.  This horse can move!
